Good morning everyone,

It is the time of year in which the troop needs to collect scout registration fees and annual dues. As Lisa has mentioned, Pikes Peak Council has raised the registration fees for scouts to $65 and adult leaders to $36. We do not charge our Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters the $36. Additionally, the annual troop dues is $80. This covers awards, supplies, and other items as needed.

Please reach out to me at bayouboyx@comcast.net should you wish to take the fees out of your son’s scout account. Also reach out if you are unsure of your son’s scout balance and I will provide. We will be writing a check to council shortly and the troop funds are tight at this time of the year. Carrie and I will be available to accept checks at troop meetings.

Philmont Update

BSA Troop 287 —  September 22, 2019 — Leave a comment

Hello everyone!

The troop has made its next payment to Philmont for the June 2020 trek. The troop is currently covering some of these fees as we have not collected enough money either from participants or have we filled all of the available slots. We currently have 9 of 12 slots filled. A scout should be 14 years old OR 13 years old AND finished 8th grade. It would be great to get these last three spots filled. We are not required to have 12 members in our crew. We can continue with the current 9 participants. With 9, the fees would be $1,367 each. Please discuss with your scout if they are interested in participating.

Philmont Update

Hello everyone

We are one month away from our next Philmont payment. Thank you to all who have made payments. Our goal should be that all participants pay at least half before September 30th. Many of the current payments have done so but we still have a couple in which I would like to collect some funds.

We also have three spots open. Philmont is scheduled for June 17th through June 29th. This is an incredible experience for the scouts. Participants should be 14 years old OR 13 years old AND have completed the 8th grade.

The cost to participate is $1,025 if we have 12 participants. The troop can attend with the current 9 participants which will increase the price to $1,367 ($342 additional funds).

Please discuss with your scout if they wish to attend.

We would appreciate it if current participants would bring a check to the next troop meeting.

Just a reminder that we will be meeting at the Valley Swim Club tomorrow at 6:00 pm for our Sea Base swim test.

Hello folks,

The Sea Base Participants will need to complete the BSA swim test before we head to Florida. We have scheduled the Valley Swim Club for our test on Tuesday, July 23rd.  We don’t have the time pinned down yet but will most likely shoot for 6:00.  More on that as we finalize the details.  It will be $5 per person. The scouts can then go to the troop meeting afterward. Adult and Scout participants must complete the test. Please let me know if your scout cannot make it. We will need to figure something out.

Hello everyone!

Our next payment of $5,500 is due to Philmont by October 1st. We currently have six scouts and three adults signed up as follows:

Our adults are Sean Warner, Michael Pharris, and Greg Smith.

There are still three slots open for participants.

The total due for the Philmont Ranch portion of this trip is $1,025 per participant (with 12 participants). I have received a down payment for Greg and Lance of $100. Riley has paid $650 and Evan is paid in full. We are going to need another $4,825 dollars between now and October 1st to meet our obligation. The troop will not be able to cover this large fee until we collect, so please plan on paying all or a part of your scout’s fees.

Good morning everyone!

Apologies for the lengthy email.

The troop has been covering funds for Summer Camp for the scouts but we are in need of getting “caught up” for your scout to get the troop’s account flesh again. I mentioned at the court of honor the need for funds.

As I understand it, there will not be a meeting next week for Spring Break. This will mean that the troop will have to cover another summer camp payment on April 1st, before our next opportunity to collect funds from you. For most scouts we have collected $55. By April we should have collected an additional $275 for each scout. There are balances in your Scout’s account but it won’t be sufficient to catch them up. So, we will need checks as soon as possible to catch your scout up for summer camp. If you wish to connect with me off-line to check scout account balances and make arrangements for payment, contact me at bayouboyx@comcast.net to do so.

To date, Mark Pharris, Connor Pietzrak, Lance Warner and Evan Reeves are paid in full. I also have two scouts who have not made payments at all. We will need to get some funds from you in order to increase our number of participants with Cris Dobbins.

Camping Gear Donation

I received some donated camping gear from a retired scoutmaster of another troop. The gear includes three backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, amongst other items. The items seem to be in good shape. I will be bringing them to tonight’s troop meeting if you are interested.

Tomorrow is the start of our 2018 Flag season! Please check Sign Up Genius if you are unsure if you signed up for this holiday. All of the Drivers & Navigators for this holiday should have received an email with route assignments, list of addresses and a link to the google map.  If you have any questions, please reach out to me via email or txt.

We will meet at 6am at the barn to load the vehicles and then head out to start the routes. We’ll meet at the barn at 5pm for afternoon pickup.

Scouts should wear their Class A uniform!

Parents….

Flag season is right around the corner! I received the list for Memorial Day 2018 and we have 238 flags to do for this holiday. It’s an honor and a privilege to be part of this collaboration. I appreciate everyone that has signed up but we are short a Driver for this first holiday. We are short a Navigator too but since I’m driving, I don’t really need a navigator. We are set with Scouts! But without that last driver, Josh & I will be forced to post about 120 flags!!! I’m asking please, please, please.…..we need another driver to sign up or make some adjustments with the parents and families that are already signed up. I will be at the meeting tomorrow to answer any questions and to hopefully get this issue all worked out!

Good morning,

At tomorrow’s troop meeting, I will be “setting up shop” to review homework requirements for the Citizenship in the Nation merit badge. We have a Court of Honor scheduled on June 12th. I thought it would be great to get the scouts finishing things up in order to receive this Eagle required badge that night.

Please have your scout bring their workbook with them to the meeting tomorrow night and be prepared to discuss what requirements they may have left to complete.  There is a requirement requiring the scout to watch/read the news for five days in a row.  If for some reason your scout has not completed that, they can discuss with me tomorrow night some options for finishing that piece up in time for the Court of Honor.

I will be out of town for our troop meetings on the 26th and the 5th.  If your scout wishes to get this badge completed in time for the Court of Honor then I can work something out with our Scoutmasters to sign off on the last few requirements.

I am looking forward to hearing what they have discovered.

  • Camp Card discussion and Bass Pro Sales in April 14th, 2018, camp cards distributed.

  • REMINDER ***Court of Honor date change to June 12, 2018.
  • Discussion of Youth Protection Training, training has been updated and needs to be completed by October 2018. Email was sent out. There is also position specific training if needed.
  • Discussion regarding proposed service projects.

Sean Warner – Scoutmaster.

  • Great Sand Dunes feedback provided. Troop led with 2 hiking opportunities. The Visitor Center was a learning opportunity for scouts.
  • Backpacking Trip scheduled for May 18th – 20th, 2018 , 2 levels of backpacking will be available for older and younger scouts.
  • Summer Camp is coming up, starting June 17, 2018. It is important to have physicals completed and merit badge selection in.
  • SeaBase Trip is scheduled for August 5-11th, 2019, Coral Reef Trip ,2 boats reserved , costs discussed. Asking for additional scouts to participate.
  • Discussion regarding need for new troop gear.
  • Order of Arrow nominations will be at the next scout meeting April 17th, 2018.
  • Game Night, April 24th, 2018, 6 to 8 p.m.  At Battlefield, 120 W Costilla St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.

Good afternoon everyone!

Three comments on the Citizenship in the Nation Eagle required merit badge for the scouts.

1) Requirement 2 has the scouts doing 2 of 4 items (a – d). Item c. requires the scout to tour a federal facility and explain what they saw and learned. Mrs. Julie Carr (Jacob’s mom) has scheduled a tour of the General Mail Facility here in the Springs. Please contact her at 303-882-7326 or rjdcarr@aol.com if your scout is interested in attending. She will need to know by March 26th in order to get your scout on the list.

2) The scouts went home with homework for four requirements. Please remind your scout about finishing the homework.

3) We are going to set some time aside at the troop meeting on April 3rd to review the last discussion requirement (#7) and I would also like to have the scouts bring their homework for my review. If a scout has all four of the homework requirements for that night and participates in the discussion, they would finish the merit badge that night!!

  • Summer Camp Scholarship opportunities were discussed.
  • Court of Honor, February 27, 2018, set up 5:30 p.m., start 6 p.m. dinner,  COH  7 .p.m. Chili Cook-Off  theme, Sign up Genius will be sent for supplies/food needed.
  • Camp card sales, February 27th kick off at Overdrive Raceway, Monument CO. February 28th  to April 29th, 2018 sales period. A Bass Pro storefront sales slot time given to the Troop. Please watch for updates. Great opportunity for scouts to earn money.
  • Monthly notifications for Youth Protection training (YPT) will be made to keep up to date. Please watch for communications from Lisa.

  • Discussion for High Adventure 2019 – Sea Base trip, possible sailing excursion.
  • Discussion of volunteer needed to help plan High Adventure trip
  • Knot Patrol Meetings are proposed to be once a month. Any parent can participate. Involves planning camp outs.

  • Usage of Sign up Genius for Board of Reviews were discussed, more information to be communicated.
  • REMINDER: Troop follows School District 11 schedule. If school is out the Troop does not meet.

Summer Camp Update

We are up to 13 scouts attending summer camp. Just a friendly reminder that we are asking families to have the total balance due by April 10th. I have heard from several of you to take monies out of your son’s Scout Account. Please reach to me if you wish to know the balance owed or the balance in your Scout Account. We have a Court of Honor coming up on the 27th. I will have account summaries available then.

Summer Camp Payments

Hello everyone,

The troop just paid the second installment of Summer Camp for Camp A to Council.  I have been challenged with getting to the meetings and to remind you all about making payments.

For February, please be prepared to submit a check for your first and second installments (the first was your deposit). Each installment is $66.25, so a total of $132.50 would be due.  Installment three is due March 13th and your final installment is due April 10th.

Scouts & Families,

Just a reminder that tomorrow is our November “Thanksgiving” Court of Honor! Set-up begins at 5:30pm, dinner will start at 6:00pm (or as soon as we get everything ready) and COH will begin around 7:00pm. There are a few slots available on the Thanksgiving Sign-up Genius for dinner sides if you haven’t already signed up to bring something.

Also as a reminder, we will be collecting re-charter fees and troop dues for 2018. You will also be able to reserve a spot for your Scout for 2018 summer camp at Camp A. Scouts will also be receiving their popcorn orders tomorrow at COH. We will need a few people to help unload the popcorn and bring it in to the church and maybe help separate the order.

Please see the assignments for the routes below and a link to the map. If you have any questions, please txt me. Also we had a cancellation so we have a spot open in the am for a Scout. Txt me if your Scout wants to take that spot. Please don’t show up in the morning unless you confirm with me first so that we can make sure we don’t have too many Scouts and not enough seatbelts.
