You can now download and print two new useful files to download and print at the BSA Troop 287 website:

  1. BSA Parent Permission Form
  2. Road to First Class Study Flash Cards

The links to download the documents can be found toward the bottom of the website’s right sidebar.

It looks like this:

Look for the green sign titled “Useful Links & Download Documents.” Both documents require the free Adobe Acrobat reader (almost all computers and smart phones can display and print these files). But if you don’t have the Acrobat Reader, you can download and install the software here:

The flash cards require a fair amount of assembly after printing. The instructions are on the printed sheets, themselves. Simply cut on the dotted lines and fold on the solid lines.

The flash cards cover nearly everything the boys need to know between Scout and First Class (according to the most recent Scout Handbook). The questions are on one side, the answers are on the other. There are several advantages to having the flash cards:

  • it puts the information into bulleted items (sometimes, the Handbook is narrative)
  • it allows friends and family to test the scout
  • the cards are color-coordinated so you can quickly jump from one rank to another
  • once printed, cut, folded, and laminated, the study cards are portable and can be shared
  • it allows scoutmasters to consistently test the boys for scoutmaster conferences … same questions, same answers
Swanie is the editor of the flash cards. They were created with Adobe Illustrator CS5. The files are still editable, if you’re a graphic artist type with the same or better software.
