



During the spring of 1991, nine adult members of the Wilson United Methodist Church began meeting to explore the possibility of adding the Boy Scouts of America program to the youth ministry of the church.
On August 20, 1991, Wilson United Methodist Church was granted a charter for Troop 287 by the Pikes Peak Council of the Boy Scouts of America. With 5 boys and nine adults, Troop 287 began an interfaith youth outreach ministry in the northwest part of Colorado Springs.
Wilson United Methodist Church was granted a charter for Venture Crew 6 by the Pikes Peak Council of the Boy Scouts of America. With 6 youth and 6 adults, Crew 6 began an interfaith high adventure program in the northwest part of Colorado Springs.
Membership in Troop 287 and Venture Crew 06 is available to all youth and adult persons that ascribe to the Scout Oath and Scout Law in accordance with the joining requirements of the Boy Scouts of America. Venture Crew 6 membership is available to all youth, male and female between 14 and 20 years old.
Troop 287 has been awarded the "Best All-Around Troop" in 2002, 2003, 2005,2006, and 2007 at the annual district Camporee. We do it through training, preparation, and having a lot of fun in the process. We have received the "Centennial Quality Unit in 2007, 2008, and 2009" award for the achievements, conservation, community service, and training of the past year.
