Scouts,

The plan for tomorrow’s meeting will be what was on the schedule for last week’s meeting that was cancelled. See post from last week below.

Folks,

  • This Tuesday we are going to do more Advancement/Merit Badge completion.  Please bring your binders and scout handbooks as well as any new advancements that have not been recored. We will also run the any remainder Tenderfoot PT tests so boys needing that can arrive in athletic gear. Also, Max from the Rotary Club is coming to talk about Flags so we need maximum scout participation.
  • Discuss campout at Glen Aspen Ranch. Could be a Backpack or a Car camping trip. Other ideas welcome
  • Tuesday (Oct 10th)  is the committee meeting. We really need everyone that volunteered for a position to please show up so we can make sure you have the knowledge to do them.  Some of the new positions were Quartermaster, Advancements, Popcorn, Outdoor Coord, etc. We are still in desperate need of a new Committee Chair. Sandy has time to start the transition which will be much easier than learning on your own.
  • Also, we are going to have a Leader’s meeting on Oct 19th at 630 PM. The address is on the scout calendar.
  • We will also run the remainder Tenderfoot PT tests so boys needing that can arrive in athletic gear.
  • Finally, we need adults to look at this sign up Genius and select what campouts they can attend. This is planned a year in advance so plenty of time to plan!! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f054baca929a4fc1-adult

See you all tomorrow!

Parents,

Just a reminder that our Troop Committee meeting is tomorrow evening, Tuesday 10/10 starting around 7:30pm. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to attend. Some of the business that we will be discussing is filling Committee positions and other volunteer positions. I’m asking that anyone who may be interested please come to the meeting tomorrow. Please!

Some positions that I am hoping to fill are the following….

  1. Someone to take responsibility for the Scout closet and keep track of inventory of t-shirts, neckerchiefs, binders etc. This is something that can be done about once a month.
  2. Someone to take over the responsibility of ordering t-shirts, sweatshirts, and getting neckerchiefs made when we need them. This is something that needs to be done maybe once or twice a year.
  3. Someone to coordinate game nights. The Scouts have decide on activities and the dates are on the calendar so this would entail picking an activity and then making arrangements or reservations and passing that info along to the Scoutmaster.
  4. Court of Honor Lead – this is a 4x/year responsibility. Feb (Chili cookout), May (BBQ), Aug (ice cream social) & Nov (Thanksgiving dinner). This job would include making sure we have enough paper goods, cups, utensils, drink mix, etc; also arriving early to set up (around 5:30pm) for COH, and help Scoutmaster with Signup Genius for salads, sides, desserts,

Thank you for considering this positions! See you all Tuesday!

Sandy

Committee Chairperson

Scouts,

Neither Fort Carson nor the Air Force Academy can run a Climbing Merit Badge this month so I requested the use the our primitive Boy Scout Ranch in Woodland Park. We can either do some car camping with hikes or backpacking. We can decide at the next meeting what we would like to accomplish….or it can just be a lazy campfire campout. Its beautiful area and its only 35 minutes from Colorado Springs.

I figure this campout would cost about $15 per scout as its only $4 per scout to use the area for the weekend and the rest can go towards food. We will need two Leaders to go. I may or may not be able to go myself….

We DO need to keep camping regularly to stay active and have fun outdoors!!!

The campout will be from 20-22 Oct.  We will figure out the details at the next meeting. Please sign up at the below Sign Up Genius Link:

Scouts, Family and Friends,

Wilson United Methodist Church will be holding a prayer and healing session tonight at 630pm in the wake of the shooting in Las Vegas.  As such, we will not be able to have a meeting tonight.  Please take a moment to give thanks for your scouts, families and friends tonight. Reflect on the happiness around you and think of how you can make the world better place. Live your lives striving to help others and to make others happy.  Love and happiness is contagious so spread it wide. I’m very thankful to have all of you in this Troop that teaches be to become a better leader, friend and father.

Sean

Our Scout meeting is canceled but all are welcome to attend for the prayer if you’d like. Here is the note from the Church:

Hello church family,

In the sadness of the recent Las Vegas shooting and just an overwhelming feeling of divisiveness and darkness, we have decided to put together a time of prayer and healing for THIS EVENING, October 3 starting at 6:30 pm.

Our Senior Pastor, David Hiester, will start with some opening words, and then we will simply provide space for people to pray, process, and heal.  There will be individuals available to talk with you if you need guidance and prayer. This time will also be interpreted for our Deaf community.

You are invited to come, but this is not just for Wilson.  Please invite the community around you, your front line, to come and be blessed by this time together.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”  John 14:27

In Him,

~Indiana Martin

One addition to the last post….We will also run the any remainder Tenderfoot PT tests so boys needing that can arrive in athletic gear.

Thanks

This week it will be at CityRock Climbing Gym located at 21 N Nevada Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. Hi folks,

This weeks campout will be canoeing at Rampart Range Reservoir! Mr. Durrenberger and Mr. Studebaker will be starting the merit badge Tuesday.

Rampart Range Reservoir a short drive from Colorado Springs and its easy car camping. These sites are first come first serve so we will need one adult to head out a little early and secure the sites.  The cost for this campout will be approximately $15-$20 per scout. This fee covers the cost of food, campsites, sunscreen, bug spray and cooking stuff for the scouts. The $160 rental fee for canoes are being paid for by the troop which was earned through FLAG MONEY!!  This is another reason why flags are so important! The next flag sign up will be coming out soon so please support the program.

Please sign up on Sign Up Genius at the below link:

For this Tuesday’s meeting we will decide meal plans, who is buying and preparing food.  We will also prepare our troop gear.

If you took home a tent to dry out from the Terryall Campout then please bring it back as we will need it!!

You do not have to bring in your gear to this meeting but here is a good link to a basic packing list: http://boyslife.org/outdoors/outdoorarticles/6976/scout-outdoor-essentials-checklist/

Please make sure you have a bathing suit or two and towel. We will be in the water a lot and sunburn is a risk so hats and swim shirts are a good idea. Shoes that you can get wet in will help protect your feet.  You can also bring goggles or a swim mask/fins if you’d like because I’m sure we will get some play time in the water too 🙂

Thanks

Sean

Scout Leaders and Parents,

In order to ensure that we do not have a lack of Adult leaders to participate in future camp outs, I’ve created a sign up for every camp out for the rest of the year. This is for Adult Leader’s only. We are again invited to march with the local Colorado Springs Special Forces Veterans in the Colorado Springs Veteran’s day parade on November 4th.  We will meet at the VFW 101 at 7am (Time might change) and will be done about noon or earlier.  After the parade you can hang and chat with the veterans about their experiences….don’t forget to thank them!!

We would like to have at least 10 scouts there and two adult leaders. Please sign up at www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F054BACA929A4FC1-veterans3

Folks,

Please sign up for Flags on Veteran’s Day. We really need more drivers!! Don’t assume someone will do it.  Thank you in advance for being part of the team!

Sean

Hey Scouts,

Thank you those that did Flags today! You are all supporting the Troop! However, we have the same parents doing it all the time and desperately need some more Parents driving 🙂

So this Tuesday we have an Annual Planning meeting. We got a little start the other day before the ascent but we will finish it up. We will apply Merit Badges and Activities to each month through next August.   I would also really like parent involvement if you have good ideas. Let’s continue to make this Troop full of Adventure and fun!!

Some other things to look at:

Finally, I kinda hurt my foot and I might not be able to make the Canoeing Trip because I might have surgery. For planning, I need someone with a military ID able to get the canoes from the Air Force Academy and potentially someone to run this campout.

Thanks

Sean

Labor Day Flags

BSA Troop 287 —  September 3, 2017 — Leave a comment

Hi Folks,

These are the assignments for flags. I apologize for the late notice but I was still trying to fill some empty slots until 9pm tonight! We need all the Scouts that signed up to please show up and fill their spots on the assigned routes. Since we did not have enough drivers, we don’t need everyone that signed up for navigator. I appreciate those of you who signed up but I just picked random people for slots. If I didn’t put you in a slot this time, don’t worry there is still Veteran’s Day!

Please meet at the barn at 6:00am for the morning route and 5:00pm for the evening route! If you have any questions or anything comes up then please txt me because I will not be checking my email anymore tonight or tomorrow morning.

See you all in the morning!
