Camp Alexander LogoWe’ve added a web page on the website just for the 2013 summer camp program at Camp Alexander:

https://www.bsatroop287.org/summer-camp-2013/

On this page, we’re going to try to post all pertinent dates and information for the summer camp. If you have questions, you can contact Swanie.

Michel S’s Eagle Scout project has been moved to April 6th and 7th. Michel will have a sign up sheet for scouts who can help him with the project.

Pikes Peak Council has announced the next session of the Archery Merit Badge Class and two range qualifications for those needing just the qualification to complete the badge. The Badge has been expanded to a Friday Evening and all day Saturday to try and help develop some proficiency and reduce the number of scouts that fail to meet the qualification. The qualification only is a Tuesday evening from 5 to 9. This class is a great opportunity to earn a badge and save a slot at summer camp for something else. If you do elect to take this badge please see Keith Moore for a blue card prior to attending. Sign ups are conducted through the council web site (unless it is a retake).

We had two scouts sign up and pay for the previous class that did not attend and one that went home sick. Please contact Richard Evans to reschedule your scout with no additional fees (revans00@comcast.net)

I am forwarding this email I received so you can have the option to attend the meeting concerning this very important change in BSA Policy.

Dear Scout Families ,

After careful consideration and extensive dialogue within the Scouting family, along with comments from those outside the organization, the volunteer officers of the Boy Scouts of America’s National Executive Board concluded that due to the complexity of the membership standards issue, the organization needs time for a more deliberate review of its membership policy.

To that end, the executive board directed its committees to further engage representatives of Scouting’s membership and listen to their perspectives and concerns. This will assist the officers’ work on a resolution on membership standards. The approximately 2000 voting members of the national council will take action on the resolution at the national meeting in May 2013.

We are currently in the process of a careful and deliberate review of our membership policy. Scouting is a family and we believe it is important that every voice is heard. We are dedicated to the integrity of this process and trust that our 2000 voting members of the national council will fairly and accurately determine the most appropriate path forward.

The Pikes Peak Council is hosting a “Membership Standards Informational Meeting” for stakeholders in our Scouting family. Information is below.

Who:  Members of the Pikes Peak Council Scouting family – leaders, parents, donors, charter partners and their representatives.

What:  Informational meeting and discussion related to changing the BSA’s membership standards policy.

When:  Wednesday, March 13th at 6pm.

Where:  Activities Center, 985 West Fillmore Street, Colorado Springs

Why:  Share current information and updates related to the membership standards policy review and evaluation process. Listen to our stakeholders and gather related feedback.

Chartered Organization Representatives are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting. If you are unable to attend the meeting, the best way to reach the National Council and to ensure that your feedback is received is to send an email to http://www.scouting.org/ContactUs.aspx

During this process, we will work to stay focused on that which unites us. Be a part of this discussion by staying engaged and continuing your role in Scouting. The kids in our community need you. Thank you for your commitment to Scouting. If you have any questions about the meeting, please contact me directly at Kent.Downing@scouting.org

It helps them pay for their journey to Eagle. Discussion about having a plan B for bad weather, it was decided that we have a plan B for the Veterans Day Flags and to disclose the plan when parents and scouts are signing up so they are aware that if weather does not permit an early morning route than you will have to be able to do a later morning route.
