For Tuesday’s meeting we’ll continue to work on the Personal Management Merit Badge, so all scouts working on the merit badge should bring the workbook to the meeting.  Prior to the meeting, please complete the budget that you will track for 12 weeks.  I’ll sign off on your budget and then you can continue to track income/expenses for the MB requirement.  This is a great time of year to complete the MB as you enter a vacation period and typically have more expenses over the holidays!

We’ll also be planning a Webolos event in January, and plan a sledding/outdoor activity for next Sunday, 20 December in Woodland Park.  Please keep the Sunday date open…this will be a great winter family activity!  If you have any questions please e-mail me (jonu_1999@yahoo.com).

Please email lisalwo@gmail.com if your Scout would like to renew his subscription to Boy’s Life Magazine at a cost of $12.  Please let me know by Friday, December 11th.

Ice Skating for Saturday (5 Dec) is CANCELLED.  When I slipped the date to Saturday I didn’t realize it would conflict with the Downtown Festival of Lights parade.  Since the outdoor rink is right next to the parade route Saturday night will be crazy!  We’ll look for another opportunity to schedule this event.  We still need Scouts for the WUMC tree lighting Friday evening beginning at 4:30 pm!

We will have a meeting next Tuesday to regroup and reschedule activities.  Still looking for a December “lock in” night at WUMC which will be fun for scouts of all ages!

The committee is working hard on our recharter for 2016, which is due to the council on 18 Dec.  We will assume all scouts will recharter unless you have provided alternate information.  The recharter scout fee can be paid with a check to Troop 287 or via your Scout Account.  We’ll be collecting this information at the Tuesday meeting.  Please contact both Lisa Woodard (lisalwo@gmail.com) and Jon Ullmann (jonu_1999@yahoo.com) if your scout does NOT want to recharter for 2016.  We have lots of fun activities planned, including lots of camping and backpacking next year, to help your scout continue to grow and develop a life committed to the 12 points of the scout law.  See you Friday for the tree lighting and Tuesday for the meeting at WUMC.

Troop 287 has a busy weekend of events and there have been some changes, so check out the schedule below!

Friday, 4 Dec:  WUMC Tree Lighting.  Needs Scouts to direct cars/people beginning at 4:30 pm.

Saturday, 5 Dec:  Dave Krzemien Memorial Service, need 5 Scouts for Flag Detail (11am-1pm)

Saturday, 5 Dec:  Game Night Ice Skating at Acacia Park, 6-7:30 pm

Since we didn’t have our traditional meeting/signups this week, I’ve sent out invites via signupgenius for these 3 events.  You’ll find additional details in the signupgenius invite…please review the information and RSVP via the site so I know who is participating/attending…thanks!

“Mr. K” had a huge impact at and beyond Troop 287.  He is largely responsible for the Troop’s great culture, and his values will live on through the future work of the many scouts that he mentored.  See below for information on Dave’s memorial service Saturday.

Dear friends and Scouting family,
One month ago, we lost a very dear friend and a beloved member of our Scouting family.  For those of you who may not have known our District Commissioner David L. Krzemien, he was a kind and giving man who was always quick to help a friend or Scouter in need.  For many years he volunteered with his son’s Pack, Troop, and Crew.  He then became the District Training Chair and the District Commissioner.  Dave was the type of Scouter who fiercely believed that no program would fail if their leaders were trained and worked very diligently to ensure that opportunities for training were always offered.

A memorial service will be held this weekend for Dave—and I ask that if you are able, that you come.

His updated obituary, guestbook and service information are at this link:
The family has asked that donations in lieu of flowers go to Pikes Peak Council. The donation information is in the obituary.

Dave was a great man that offered many support in times of need.  Let’s come together as a family, to support each other, and most importantly, Dave’s family as we grieve his loss.

Thank you,
Monica Webb

December’s Game Night for Troop 287 is ice skating at Acacia Park! (Downtown CS at the corner of Platte and Tejon…see link below).  We’ll meet at the rink Friday 4 Dec at 6 pm for 1.5 hrs of ice skating (or more if you want to stay longer…the rink closes at 9 pm).  Adults can either skate with the kids or troll around the downtown shops.  Cost is $10, which includes admission and skate rental.  Military are $1 off with ID, and children 4 and under are free.  There will NOT be a Tuesday meeting this week.  See you Friday!

All,

On Thursday, 19 Nov, 7 pm (tomorrow), we will have the first ever Troop 287 mini-Court of Honor at WUMC!  We have some important merit badges to award and Troop business to complete so we’d like to get as many families as possible to the meeting.  We will begin at 7 pm, and the formal meeting will be complete by 7:20, with planning  and business activities afterwards to accomplish the following:

-We’ll plan the campout on 20-22 Nov (Glen Aspen, near Woodland Park).  Cost will be $15.  Scouts need to come to the mini-COH to signup and plan.  Please make alternate arrangements with me prior to the mini-COH if you’d like to go on the campout but can’t make the meeting tomorrow.

-All popcorn money is due at the mini-COH!  We need to reconcile our popcorn account with the council this week.

-We will be collecting recharter fees, Troop Dues, and Summer Camp payments at the COH, so please bring your checkbook.  Mrs. Warner will have updates on Scout account funds for those wishing to use those funds for recharter/dues/summer camp.

-We will briefly discuss the upcoming events that were planned at the annual planning conference.  Come see the great stuff happening in the coming year!

Please e-mail me at jonu_1999@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

Due to the storm passing through Colorado Springs and the closure of D11 and D20, we are cancelling the Troop 287 COH on Tuesday, 17 November.

We will hold a short ceremony at an upcoming Troop meeting to award merit badges and pass out information to parents…probably after the Thanksgiving break; stay tuned for more information as we come up with a plan.

If you didn’t receive this message immediately (by 9 pm Monday night), it means you haven’t signed up for immediate e-mail updates via the Troop 287 website.  We have transitioned to a new e-mail subscription application that will send out immediate post updates.  Simply go to the website and “subscribe by e-mail” via the box in the right column.  If you don’t do this, you will not receive web updates beginning in December as we phase out the other e-mail subscription service (that sends out updates once daily at 3 pm).

If you have any questions, please contact me at jonu_1999@yahoo.com

Popcorn Pickup Update

BSA Troop 287 —  November 14, 2015 — Leave a comment

Folks,

I arrived 30 min late at the Eagle Scout Project this morning with the popcorn. It took a little longer to pick up than I thought.  I will be at the Eagle Scout Project Sunday from about 11-12ish with the Popcorn for those that did not get it today. You can email me at seanmwarner@gmail.com if you need to make special arrangements to pick it up at another time.

Sean

Troop 287,

I am picking up the popcorn you ordered on Saturday morning.  It will be available for you to pick up at Nick Ullman’s Eagle Scout Project at Glen Eyrie at 10am.  Please come get it. I don’t want to hold onto it for you.  Glen Eyrie is located at 3820 N. 30th Street  Colorado Springs, CO 80904.

The next and last opportunity for you to pick it up will be at the Court of Honor on Tuesday the 17th.  This is also the date that you need to turn in your popcorn money to Andrea so we can pay the council.  So I recommend you get it on Saturday, deliver it over the weekend or Monday, then you can turn in Money on Tuesday and be done with it!

Feel free to email me with any questions.

Veteran’s Day Flags

BSA Troop 287 —  November 1, 2015 — Leave a comment

We need drivers/navigators and scouts for Veteran’s Day Flags on Saturday, November 7th.  This is an important outreach for Troop 287, as well as a way for scouts to earn money to fill up their scout accounts.  Several activities are coming up, to include planning for Summer Camp 2016, so Veteran’s Day Flags is a great way to get started on saving for outdoor fun!

AM Flags:  Meet at WUMC at 6:30 am

PM Flags:  Pick up flags beginning at 3:45 pm

You can track the status of signups on signupgenius.com (you should have received an invite; if you didn’t please let me know at jonu_1999@yahoo.com and I’ll add you to our address group).  I know this is a busy weekend!  We need everyone to help as best they can to get this done.  Please look at what you can do and signup on the site…thanks!
